Guru Nanak Jayanti

Guru Nanak Jayanti

Cutting across the barriers of caste and creed, encompassing followers and non-followers, leaving behind an eternal message of peaceful co-existence of mankind as a whole, the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji are a logical path leading to salvation through love, compassion, mercy, benevolence, forgiveness, non-violence and renunciation of materialistic desires.Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings are very relevant to the present situation when the atmosphere is marred by enmity, conflict and social tensions.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings can be found in the Sikh scripture Guru Granth Sahib, as a vast collection of revelatory verses recorded in Gurmukhi.

Through popular tradition, Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teaching is understood to be practised in three ways:

- Vand Chhako: Sharing with others, helping those with less who are in need
- Kirat Karo: Earning/making a living honestly, without exploitation or fraud
- Naam Japna: Chanting the Holy Name and thus remembering God at all times (ceaseless devotion to God)

While celebrating the birthday of this outstanding apostle of peace and non-violence we should pledge to follow his ideals, principles and values.

Let this Prakash Utsav (festival of light) bring all happiness and prosperity in the life of each and every human being.
